INSTRUCTIONS FOR CREATING YOUR CUSTOM TEMPLATE:
STEP 1: Go to your local and buy
a sheet of "white paper". Buy enough paper to cover the sunroof
plus enough to overlap the hole by 2-3 inches. The paper must
be white, and flexible. We cannot use posterboard or brown butcher
paper.
STEP 2: Once you get the paper home
cut it down to the size needed, 2-3 inches larger than the sunroof.
Remove the headliner and factory sunroof from your car. This includes
everything connected to the sunroof assembly. You can do this
yourself in about 30 minutes or have a qualified shop do it for you
if you don't know how. A Haynes manual will show detailed instrucions
on this. You should now be looking at a hole in your roof with
no moldings attached.
STEP 3: Next, tape the large sheet
of paper to over the hole in your roof, where the sunroof used to be.
Tape it to the outside of the car of course. I reccomend using
masking tape, DO NOT USE DUCT TAPE! Tape the paper very tightly
across the sunroof gap, it should be tight enough to bounce a quarter
off.
STEP 4: Now its time to trace the
outline of your sunroof gap. Use a very fine point pen to trace
the shape. Please do not use a marker or wide tip writing instrument.
The wider the pen tip the more error is introduced in the tracing.
From inside the car place the tip of the pen right against the sunroof
flange and the paper and begin tracing the shape. Have a friend
hold a hard surface such as a book against the top of the car so you
don't risk tearing a hole in the paper as you trace. IMPORTANT
- As you trace around the shape maintain a consistent angle with the
pen. We recomend you hold the pen at a 45° angle for best
results. The important thing is you maintain the same angle throughout
the tracing. This will improve the accuracy of the tracing.
Please try to use a consecutive line as much as possible to ensure that
we transfer the dimensions to your custom sunroof plug correctly.
Try not to start and stop your lines while tracing. You may now
remove the paper from the roof. If you doubt the accuracy of your
tracing do it again.
IMPORTANT: We cannot be responsible for
errors in your tracing. Any sunroof plug that is mis-cut due to
an error in their template will be the sole responsibility of the customer.
We guarantee your sunroof plug
STEP 5: Now roll your template
up and mail it to us at the address below:
www.lighterfaster.com
2006 Spring Street
Eagle Mountain, Utah 84043
It is preferable to mail the template in a
tube rather than folding the template. Be sure to include your
return address and payment if you have not already paid via Paypal or
credit card. We will contact you when we receive the template
and then your 3-4 week waiting period begins. We do our best to
keep customers updated on the status of their custom kit as we manufacture
it. Before mailing the template to us make sure you email photos
of the sunroof flange as pictured below.

Please include pictures of each side and corner
of the sunroof gap. PLease take close-up pictures. If you
don't have a digita camera you can mail physical pictures along with
your template. These pictures are important to determine the type
of custom brackets needed to install your kit. We generaly use
3 different types of brackets for most installs. Email pictures
to sales@lighterfaster.com
Along with your pictures we also need a couple
of measurments from your car. The first measurment we need is
the sunroof gap itself. You may ask "why do we need this if we
have the template". We verify the template with these measurments.
First measure the sunroof from center to center, both side to side and
fron to back. Find the approximate center points and take your
measurments as accuratley as posssible, at least to 1/16". Write
your measurments on your template before mailing it. See diagram:

The last measurment we need is the height
of the sunroof flange flats in various positions. You should take
measurments along the front edge of the sunroof flange as well
as the sides, corners, and rear section. Some cars with moonroofs
do not have any flange along the rear portion on which to mount standard
"L" shaped brackets. We use flat blackets in this situation.
We need to know the height of the "flat" portion of the flange as shown
in the picture below. This measurment is taken from the top
of the roof down the vertical face of the flange until the point the
flat portion becomes shaped. The shaped portion will not allow
the mounting of a bracket on its face of course so we don't count
this area.
If you send in physical pictures of the sunroof
flange write the mesurment of the flats in the appropriate position
on the picture so that we may supply you with the correct hardware kit.
CUSTOM FAQ:
1. Will a custom kit fit like the standard
kits?
Yes, everything you would find in our stock kit
will be included in your custom kit. This of course includes everything
you need to integrate a perfectly sized carbon fiber panel into
your roof.
2. Why are the custom kits so much more expensive
than the standard kits?
Time... It takes quite a bit of time to
produce a custom kit. It may also include a larger than standard
carbon fiber panel and/or more hardware to install it. Don't
forget we offer phone and email support for our products: support@lighterfaster.com
3. If I have a group of friends with the same
car can I get a special price for a run of multiple kits?
Yes, email sales@lighterfaster.com
for your proposed kit.
4. Is it guaranteed to fit my car?
Yes, unless the tracing was traced incorrectly.
We guarantee the panel will be the same shape as the template you send
in. We do reduce the overall size by 3/32nds of an inch to allow
for a small gap where we can seal the kit and make it water-tight.
5. Does a custom kit include written instructions?
Yes, we will send along instructions from the
stock kit that most clesely fits your install. Also you are entitled
to unlimited tech support available at 801-789-3897 or support@lighterfaster.com
6. How are the kits shipped?
The $450 price includes UPS Ground shipping,
a $40 value. We can upgrade this if you need faster delivery for
an additional cost. Call or email for quote.
7. I don't own a Honda or Acura, can I still
have a custom kit made?
YES, we can and have built kits for cars other
than Honda and Acura. Some examples are an Audi 1.8T, Ford Taurus
SHO, Nissan 200SX.
